Hokuto No Rogue

Hokuto No Rogue is a traditional roguelike set in the universe of the popular anime Fist of the North Star (also known as Hokuto No Ken). In the game, you can play as Kenshiro, the manga's protagonist, but you can also create your own character by changing his name and appearance, as well as selecting a different range of skills.

An open-world roguelike

Just as in Angband, ADOM and other greats of the genre, although Hokuto No Rogue follows a specific plot, you have absolute freedom to explore the game world. The game always starts with your character arriving at a village to take a drink of water, but after that you can roam as you please. Be careful, though, because traveling around will make you thirsty... and that can become a problem when you reach a settlement.

Accessible controls and mechanics

Roguelikes often have a reputation for being inaccessible, having to learn to correctly use dozens of keys. This is not true of Hokuto No Rogue. You can do almost everything with the mouse. You can move your character, attack, access the inventory and interact with different elements of the game by simply clicking on them. However, on the world map you can only move with WASD. If you are unsure, you can press the H key at any time to access the full list of keys.

Brutal combat

As you would hope in a Hokuto No Ken roguelike, the combat is the big star of the game. In Hokuto No Rogue you can carry out all kinds of targeted attacks to damage specific parts of your enemy's body. If they are holding a dangerous weapon, you can attack the arms directly in an attempt to disable them. Or, if you want to finish them off faster, you can aim for the head repeatedly. Although your character's fists are a lethal weapon, you can also equip all kinds of weapons, such as swords, axes, maces and crossbows.

An excellent martial arts roguelike

Download Hokuto No Rogue if you are looking for a roguelike that is complex and accessible in equal measure. The game manages to offer an experience that even newcomers to the genre can enjoy, while offering deep gameplay capable of satisfying fans of both the genre and anime.
